Commodities Agency began in 2019 and for much of the period since operated alongside associated offices in London and Dubai. Those offices are no longer part of the business. What remains, and what now carries the name, is the South African trading desk in Fourways, Sandton, operating independently under new management as Commodities Agency SA (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/111580/07.
That change has narrowed the business, deliberately. We trade what this desk can genuinely source and move: chrome concentrate, copper and thermal coal out of Southern Africa as the core book, with manganese ore and iron ore from South Africa and grain and oilseed products of Russian origin alongside them. We no longer present ourselves as a global multi commodity house, because that is not what we are.
The desk is small and deliberately so. You deal with the person who structures the trade.
Tyron runs the trading desk and carries responsibility for deal structuring, contracting and counterparty verification across the chrome, copper, coal, manganese and iron ore books. He also holds directorships in South African commercial property and accounting businesses, and brings that transactional and compliance discipline to how commodity chains are papered here.
No cargo is circulated until we know who holds title, what tonnage is uncommitted and whether the seller can reach a port. That single discipline removes most of what goes wrong in this market.
On some chains the company contracts as principal. On others it introduces and structures for a stated commission. Which one applies is written down before anything proceeds.
Every product on the desk has a published reference. We quote against it and show the adjustment, rather than presenting a number the buyer has to take on faith.
Requests that fall outside what this desk can source or move are declined quickly. A fast no is worth more to a serious counterparty than a slow maybe.
